Scots Volleyball drops 3-0 (9-25, 18-25, 9-25) match to Hope College in MIAA Semi-Finals on Friday

The Alma College Volleyball team took on Hope College in the MIAA Tournament Semi-Finals hosted by Calvin College. The Scots saw their season come to an end with a 3-0 defeat (9-25, 18-25, 9-25) to the Flying Dutch and Alma finished with a final mark of 16-13. Hope advances to the league championship after improving their record to 28-3.

The Scots ran into a buzzsaw that was the Flying Dutch and only had a lead on two occasions during the match, at 1-0 in the first set and 2-1 in the second set. Other than that, Alma had to play catch-up against a very good team and that proved to be a tough hill to climb.

Statistically, Alma Jr. S Erika VanHavel (Mason, Mich./Mason) led the way with 19 assists, while So. OH Taryn McGrew (Midland, Mich./H.H. Dow) and Jr. MH Lea Klooster (Jenison, Mich./Jenison) had six and five kills respectively.

Jr. OH/DS Kelly Maise (Northville, Mich./Northville) and Sr. DS/L/S Megan Ballantyne (Allen Park, Mich./Southgate Anderson) paced the Scots with 11 digs a piece in the loss.

Despite the loss tonight, the positive to take away from it for the program is the fact that the Alma Volleyball team has now advanced to the MIAA Semi-Finals for five consecutive seasons. Definitely something to build on moving forward.
