Scots Volleyball drops 3-0 decision to #4 Calvin College on Tuesday night at Art Smith Arena

The Scots Volleyball team hosted a very talented Calvin College team on Tuesday night at Art Smith Arena and dropped the match by a score of 3-0 (16-25, 17-25, 16-25) to the #4 rankded Knights. The loss puts the Scots at 13-10 on the season and 6-5 in the MIAA, while Calvin improved to 22-2 in 2012 and 12-0 in the league.

"Calvin is a very strong team," said Head Coach Sarah Dehring. "They'll potentially compete for the national title this year. We fixed some things with our block and with our attacking. We just let some things go that we couldn't afford to let go early on in the match. They outsize us but we know that going in. We just have to be smarter. At times we were and then we seem to forget at other times."

Jr. MH Rebecca Trosper (Plano, Tex./Lutheran North) and Jr. MH Lea Klooster (Jenison, Mich./Jenison) paced the Scots on Tuesday evening with seven and six kills respectively.

So. S/DS Tricia Smith (Morley-Stanwood, Mich./Morley-Stanwood) led the team with 15 assists, while Jr. OH/DS Kelly Maise (Northville, Mich./Northville) had a team-high eight digs, while Fr. OH/DS Hannah Guilford (Hartland, Mich./Hartland) and Smith each had seven.

The schedule does not get easier for Alma as they will next host #2 ranked Hope College on Friday night, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The team will then travel to Trine University for a key matchup with the Thunder on Saturday afternoon.
