On Tuesday night, the Alma College Volleyball team hosted Adrian College in a league match at Art Smith Arena and lost to Bulldogs by a margin of 3-1 (18-25, 25-17, 16-25, 17-25). With the loss, the Scots drop to 5-3 in the MIAA and 12-8 overall, while Adrian improved to 4-4 in the league and 11-11 in 2012.
"We are going to continue to struggle until we have leaders step forward and people decide they want to play to win," said Alma Head Coach Sarah Dehring. "There is too much going through the motions and we need to find a way out of this soon."
It was a tough night all around for the Scots as the visitors came out as a determined bunch, winning the first set by a score of 25-18. Alma won the second set 25-17 and there was hope that the match would turn around. It was an illusion however, as the Bulldogs won the next two sets by margins of 25-16 and 25-17 to close out the 3-1 victory over the Scots.
Statistical leaders for Alma included Jr. MH Lea Klooster (Jenison, Mich./Jenison), Jr. MH Rebecca Trosper (Plano, Tex./Lutheran North) and Sr. OH/RS Katie Bourbonnais (Niles, Mich./Niles), who had 11, 11 and 10 kills respectively.
The Scots will play Friday night at Kalamazoo College, beginning at 7:00 p.m. Alma's next home match will occur on Saturday afternoon, when the Scots host Olivet College at Art Smith Arena as part of Homecoming 2012. Start time is scheduled for Noon.
