On Wednesday evening, the Alma Volleyball team continued their 2012 season by traveling to Albion College to take on the Britons. The Scots defeated the hosts 3-1 (25-14, 25-19, 19-25, 25-15) to improve to 5-2 in the MIAA and 10-5 overall. Albion is now 1-12 on the 2012 season and 0-7 in the league.
"Tonight was a solid road win for us as we were able to play a lot of people and come away with a good win," said Scots Head Coach Sarah Dehring. "We now have another tough four-game tournament at Capital ahead of us this weekend and we are excited to get down there. Hopefully we can build on this momentum and carry it into the second half of the league schedule."
Seeing her most extensive action of the season, So. OH Kayla Muxlow (Brown City, Mich./Brown City) led Alma with 13 kills and three blocked shots, while Jr. MH Rebecca Trosper (Plano, Tex./Lutheran North) and So. OH Laura Walker (Roscommon, Mich./Roscommon) added nine kills a piece.
Jr. Erika VanHavel (Mason, Mich./Mason) paced the Scots with 20 assists in the win, while Sr. S Kelsee Miles (Hanover, Mich./Hanover-Horton) added 13 helpers. Sr. DS Megan Ballantyne (Allen Park, Mich./Southgate Anderson) had a team-high 11 digs, and Jr. DS Danae Sietsema (Grandville, Mich./Grandville) and Walker each added eight digs.
Alma will next compete at the Capital University (OH) tournament beginning on Friday afternoon. The Scots will play four matches, with the first being against Depauw University (Ind.) at 5:00 p.m. The team will also play John Carroll University (OH) on Friday night before taking on host Capital and Otterbein College (OH) on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. respectively.
