On Tuesday evening, Alma's Volleyball team hit the road to take on host #4 Hope College in Holland in a MIAA contest between the two teams. The Flying Dutch showed their mettle and defeated the Scots by a score of 3-0 (8-25, 17-25, 13-25) to improve to 13-1 overall and 5-0 in the league. Alma is now 2-2 in the MIAA and 7-5 for the 2012 season.
"Hope played very well and they are deserving of their number four ranking in the country," said Scots Head Coach Sarah Dehring. "I would not be surprised if they end up winning it all this season. We played a lineup that has yet to practice together, but they played with a lot of heart. Hopefully, everyone on the team can take this loss and learn from it. We need to find the passion for the game again and have some fun out there. Friday is a new day when we host Trine at our place."
Statistically, it was not the greatest of nights for the Scots, but there were highlights to be noted. So. S/DS Tricia Smith (Morley-Stanwood, Mich./Morley-Stanwood) had nine assists and five digs, while Jr. OH/DS Kelly Maise (Northville, Mich./Northville) finished with nine digs. In addition, Jr. MH Rebecca Trosper (Plano, Tex./Lutheran Northern) contributed four kills and three assists, while Jr. MH Lea Klooster (Jenison, Mich./Jenison) had five digs and three kills.
Alma continues its season on Friday evening, when they host Trine University at Art Smith Arena, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
