Scots Women's Soccer beats host Albion 5-0 on Saturday afternoon

The Alma College Women's Soccer team traveled to Albion College on Saturday and defeated the host Britons by a score of 5-0. With the win, the Scots are now 9-4-2 in the MIAA and 12-5-2 overall, while the home team fell to 0-17-2 in 2012 and 0-13-2 in the league.

"For the second straight game, we were able to come out and capitalize on our very first scoring chance and then we followed that up with another," said Alma Head Coach Jeff Hosler. "It was good to go really deep into our bench today and give quality minutes to many different players. The girls are playing with confidence as we enter the final week of the regular season."

Many times the key on the road is to get off to an early start and that is exactly what the Scots did on Saturday. Fr. M Agatha Weddle (White Lake, Mich./Walled Lake Northern) scored for Alma just 44 seconds into the contest on assists by Jr. M Taryn Handyside (Montrose, Mich./Hill-McCloy) and Jr. D Autumn Root (Haslett, Mich./Haslett).

Not even a minute later, the Scots made it a 2-0 game when So. F Mackenzie Smith (Saginaw, Mich./Nouvel) scored unassisted at 1:23. Then, at 14:32, Fr. M Kalyn Berinti (Plymouth, Mich./Canton) tallied a goal with help from Fr. D Allison Smith (Commerce Township, Mich./Walled Lake Northern) for a 3-0 advantage. Weddle then scored at 25:24 unassisted to give Alma the eventual 4-0 halftime lead.

The only goal of the second half came at 78:20, when Fr. M Katy Stephan (Lansing, Mich./DeWitt) scored on assists from Smith and Root for the 5-0 advantage. The Scots outshot the Britons 30-3 for the game, including 15-3 in shots on goal.

So. GK Morgan Waier (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) played the first half and had one save, while So. GK Rachel Doptis (Macomb Township, Mich./Macomb Dakota) was in net the final 45 minutes and stopped two shots.

Alma concludes the regular season on Wednesday afternoon at Trine University. Starting time for the Halloween tilt is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
