Scots Women's Soccer drops 1-0 game at Hope College
Alma College's Women's Soccer team hit the road on Wednesday evening when they played Hope College in Holland. The Scots gave up a late goal and dropped a 1-0 decision to the Flying Dutch to fall to 7-3-2 in the MIAA and 10-4-2 overall, while Hope is now 11-4-1 in 2012 and 8-3 in the league.
The two teams played a defensive match with few good scoring opportunities on either side and the game was scoreless as it headed into the final 10 minutes. Hope's Erin Jipping one-touched a ball into the bottom left of the net past Alma So. GK Morgan Waier (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) at the 82:37 mark of the game. The Flying Dutch was able to hold onto that 1-0 advantage to walk off the pitch with the victory.
Overall, Hope had 11 offensive shots to Alma's 10, including a three to two advantage in shots on goal. So. F Mackenzie Smith (Saginaw, Mich./Nouvel) led the Scots with three total shots, including one on goal. Jr. M/F Taryn Handyside (Montrose, Mich./Hill-McCloy) had one shot on goal and Fr. M/F Katy Stephan (Lansing, Mich./DeWitt) contributed two shots. Waier finished with two saves in net.
Alma continues their 2012 campaign on Saturday afternoon when they host Kalamazoo College at Scotland Yard. The match is scheduled to begin at Noon.
