The Alma College Women's Basketball team concluded a two day trip to Chicago on Saturday with a 70-67 loss to host North Central College (Ill.). The Scots are now 0-2 in 2012-13, while NCC improved to 1-1 on the young season. Alma will next play on November 28, when they travel to Defiance (Ohio).
"Today was a much better day than yesterday but in the first half we had too many fouls and turnovers and that is what cost us," said Scots Head Coach Keisha Brown. "I am very pleased that we were able to bounce back from yesterday's game. We had numbers today put up by players that have not done so in the past.
"With time, this team should be better to win games like this. With at least 10 minutes to go in the first half, four of my starters were in foul trouble and we used our bench extensively."
Like their first game on Friday, the Scots dug themselves an early hole that they could never get out of as they were down 7-0 just three minutes into the game. North Central was able to increase on the early lead and went into halftime with a margin of 40-26.
The two teams played to a draw through most of the second half as the Scots were down 47-30 at the 17:44 mark and 63-49 with 6:44 left in the game. Alma never quit however and kept pecking away, only to come up three points short in the end.
Sr. F Danielle Hicks (Marshall, Mich./Marshall) did not score a point, but had a career high 17 rebounds and led the team with five assists. Jr. F Mary Schlicher (Lewiston, Mich./Johannesburg-Lewiston) paced the team with 20 points and added a career-high 14 rebounds and three steals.
Jr. F Bailey Gooding (Gaylord, Mich./Gaylord) added 11 points and five rebounds, while Fr. F Logan Rowell (Cass City, Mich./Cass City) had eight points and nine rebounds. Also, So. G Mallory Pruett (Ishpeming, Mich./Ishpeming) contributed seven points and eight boards.
