Alma Swimming and Diving hosted Albion College on Saturday with both men and women earning victories

The Alma College Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving teams hosted Albion College on Saturday afternoon in a MIAA meet at McClure Natatorium. In the inaugural battle for the Union Jack Trophy, Alma defeated the Britons on the men's side by a score of 146-129, while the women were also victorious by a mark of 169-131.

The 2012-13 season marks the first competition between the two schools for the Yukon Jack Trophy and the hardware will reside at the home of the winner of each year's meet. The trophy celebrates both the Scottish heritage of Alma College and the British heritage of Albion College.

"Today was a good win for both our teams and I thought we did well throughout the meet," said Alma Head Coach Chris Hamstra. "The added excitement came from winning the Yukon Jack Trophy in the first year of its existence. Both schools believe this will just add to the environment when we compete against each other."

Ultimately, it was a team victory for both the men and the women with some very good relay results for the Scots. Individually, there were two swimmers on the men's side and three on the women's side that won more than one event on the afternoon.

For the men, So. Daniel Biggs (Midland, Mich./H.H. Dow) won the 200 yard freestyle, the 200 yard IM and the 100 yard butterfly, while Fr. TJ Koehler (Fair Haven, Mich./Marine City) was victorious in both the 100 yard and 200 yard backstroke.

The women were paced by Fr. Jaclyn Shetterly (Muskegon, Mich./Mona Shores) who won three events on the day - 200 yard IM, 200 yard backstroke and 100 yard backstroke. Jr. Miranda Anderson (Dalton, Minn./Fergus Falls) won the 1650 yard freestyle and the 200 yard freestyle), while Fr. Hannah Schroeder (Lansing, Mich./DeWitt) took first in both the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke.
