With only the top three seeds left in the tournament, Alma College and Ohio Northern began the fourth day of tournament play.
Ending the Scot's season, Ohio Northern University came out on the winning end of a 4-1 score.
"I just told the kids to be patient and [Rezmer] will bring it in the zone and we finally did that today and got seven hits," Ohio Northern's head coach Kim Burke said.
The game began with a shot to right field whereJr. Amanda Schneider (New Baltimore, Mich./Anchor Bay) made an easy catch for the Polar Bear's first out.
In the top of the third, Ohio Northern University took control of the game scoring two runs when Sr. Kimi Blewett (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) doubled to center field, allowing two runners to get home and earning her two RBIs. The Polar Bears continued to score in the top of the fourth and again in the top of the fifth, allowing them to pull away, 4-0.
Pitching for the second time this weekend, So. Dani Steepe (Marysville, Ohio/Marysville) struck out seven of the 28 batters she faced.
"Really it's just pitch by pitch," Steepe said. "I don't really think about anything but the next pitch. If the last pitch wasn't what I wanted, I think about what I have to do to fix it and throw the next one."
The Scots were able to get on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning, with So. Chanler McCaskey (Morenci, Mich./Morenci) scoring on a Polar Bear error. Despite attempts to rally back late in the bottom of the seventh, Alma College was not able to put enough runs to take back the game.
"It was a great year," Alma's head coach Denny Griffin said. "I told the kids, you win 31 ball games, you get to the semi finals of a regional tournament, that's a very good season. Don't hang your heads because we battled all the way through the end."
Ohio Northern University will now play Trine University in the championship game.
