Attempting to get back into the winners' bracket, Alma College played John Carroll University in the third round of tournament play.
The Blue Streaks fell to the Scots, ending their tournament run, with a final score of 2-0.
Alma College came out and took the lead early in the game with a run in the second inning. The Blue Streaks failed to get on the board for the duration of the game allowing the Scots to hold on to their lead.
"I thought the kids did a nice job," Alma's head coach Denny Griffin said. "We made some moves offensively that seemed to help. We want to win this thing and go on the sail."
The first run came from a single hit up the middle bySr. Erin Pintek (Flushing, Mich./Flushing), earning her the RBI and scoring Fr. Lea Lusk (Columbiaville, Mich/Lakeville). Both teams would remain scoreless until the bottom of the sixth when the Scots were again able to get runners on base.
Jr. Louise Rezmer (Essexville, Mich./Bay City All Saints) pitched all seven innings, her third game of the tournament for the Scots.
"My teammates are always really fired up and they always have my back," Rezmer said. "We don't want to be out and we want to keep winning."
John Carroll was only able to get two hits off of Rezmer, allowing Alma College to secure the win.
"The big thing is I have a lot of sophomores and a lot of younger kids so I'm really excited they were able to get this experience and take this forward with them," John Carroll's head coach Erin Brooks said.
Alma College will play for a second time today against the University of Chicago. The winner of that game will play Sunday at noon against the loser of the Trine and Ohio Northern game.
