On Saturday afternoon, the Alma College Men's Soccer team hosted Adrian College at Scotland Yard and used an early goal to come away with a quality 1-0 victory. The Scots improved to 3-7-1 in the MIAA and 7-9-1 overall, while the Bulldogs left town with an overall mark of 5-12 and 3-8 in the league.
"I really get excited for a winning effort, but what gives me the most satisfaction is seeing our team employ and execute a game plan that has been rehearsed for four days," remarked Scots Head Coach Josh Oakley. "I'm really proud of the boys today and it clearly shows that not only do our guys play with great effort, they are beginning to play with smarts. We've talked all season about the good teams play with their brains. We did that in this match and got the result."
Fr. M Chad Buitentiuis (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven) netted his first goal of the season in what proved to be the game winner at the 3:18 mark via a pass from So. D David Gettel (Madison Heights, Mich./Lamphere).
The Scots outshot the Bulldogs 16-9 in the match including 8-2 in the final 45 minutes. Besides Buitentiuis, three other players had shots on goal for Alma in the win - Sr. M Tyler Hendershot (Pleasant Lake, Mich./Jackson Northwest), Fr. M Connor Pace (Williamston, Mich./Williamston) and So. F Trae Pitts (North Muskegon, Mich./North Muskegon).
Jr. GK Graham Wallace (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Eastern) earned the win in the net making one save on the afternoon for the Scots.
Alma is back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Trine University for a 4:00 p.m. match against the Thunder.
