The Alma College Men's Soccer team won their third consecutive match on Saturday night, when they defeated host Benedictine (Ill.) by a score of 4-0 to improve to 3-1 on the season. The Scots are now off until Wednesday when they play at Albion College in the first game of the 2012 MIAA season.
"A good win tonight for the further development our program," said Scots Head Coach Josh Oakley. "It's great to play in Chicago and in front of some quality recruits we want to bring to Alma. Benedictine is an organized side and they were pumped for their home opener tonight. But, our guys maintained a high energy level and scored timely goals."
Late in the first half at 44:06, the Scots increased the advantage to 2-0, when Jr. F Matteo Capicchioni (West Bloomfield, Mich./West Bloomfield) scored with the helper from Sr. M/D Matt Kuberski (Port Huron, Mich./Port Huron).
The Scots kept the pressure on in the second half and made the score 3-0 at 66:48, as So. M/F Michael Smith (Saginaw, Mich./Nouvel Catholic Central) hit the back of the net, assisted by So. F Trae Pitts (North Muskegon, Mich./North Muskegon) and Sr. M Ryan Kovach (Port Huron, Mich./Port Huron).
Alma closed out the scoring at 79:55 when Smith scored his second of the night, assisted by Kovach, and the visitors would ride out the rest of the game en route to the 4-0 win. Jr. GK Graham Wallace (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Eastern) had a quiet night, notching one save to earn the win.
