Scots Men's Soccer loses to Greenville 1-0 on Saturday afternoon

The Alma College Men's Soccer team began their 2012 season on Saturday when took on Greenville College in a match played at Defiance College. The Scots dropped a tough 1-0 decision and will now play host Defiance on Sunday afternoon.

"We had a very close game this afternoon and we created many chances from corners and throw-ins," said Alma Head Coach Josh Oakley. "Their goal actually came from our free kick on top of their 18. They caught us on the break and scored a good counter attack goal. We are a young team and know that we cannot make those types of mistakes in games and we will undoubtedly be in many types of these games throughout the year. Greenville is a good team and have played in three of the last four NCAA tournaments."

After a scoreless first half that saw both teams have moments of offensive opportunities, Greenville scored on a breakaway at the 78:32 mark for the decisive 1-0 advantage. Jr. GK Graham Wallace (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Eastern) had four saves in the game for the Scots, helping to keep the contest within reach.

Offensively, Fr. M Matt Sovis (Williamston, Mich./Williamston) had two shots on goal for Alma, while So. M Joonas Kotka (Tallinn, Estonia) and Fr. M Chad Buitentiuis (Grand Haven, Mich./Grand Haven) each added one shot on goal.
