Scots Men's Hoops beat Adrian 74 to 68 in tonight's game
The Alma men's hoops team took on second-place Adrian College on Wednesday evening and came away with the impressive 74-67 victory, earning their first league win of the season. With the victory, the Scots are now 1-4 in the league and 5-11 overall, while the Bulldogs droppped to 3-2 in the MIAA and 10-5 for the season.
"It was a great effort as we earned a solid win over a very good team," said Scots Head Coach Sam Hargraves. "Hopefully we can gain some confidence by the fact that we hung on when Adrian made their run. We have said that we need to learn how to play with the lead and finish, and tonight we did just that on our home floor. We now need to build on this and great ready for Albion."
The Scots led from wire to wire but it was from easy against the talented Bulldogs. The home team built a nine point advantage at 19-10 at the 13:20 mark on a three-pointer bySo. G Kyle Aho (Gwinn, Mich./Gwinn). The two teams basically traded baskets the rest of the half and Alma was able to go into the lockerroom with a 37-31 lead, as the Scots shot 56% in the first 20 minutes.

A very entertaining and competitive second half followed, but the Scots never relenquished their lead. Adrian cut their deficit to three several times in the first ten minutes and closed to 51-49 at 10:18. But, the Scots went on a 14-4 run to take a 65-53 advantage, the last point being a free throw from Jr. G Greg Silverthorn (Shepherd, Mich./Shepherd) with 3:47 left in the game.
The Bulldogs, as to be expected, did not go away quietly. They cut Alma's lead to two points on two occasions, the last being at 67-65 with 1:59 remaining. However, the Scots would prevail on this evening as they finished the game on a 7-2 run to hold on to win by a count of 74-67.
A dunk by Tommy Erickson increased the Scots' lead to 35-29.
So. G Brandon Krause (Sanford, Mich./Meridian) led the Scots with 16 points, while Silverthorn finished with 14 points and Sr. F Tommy Erickson (Escanaba, Mich./Escanaba) had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
The Scots travel to Albion College on Saturday afternoon for another MIAA contest. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
