The Alma Men's Basketball team hosted Calvin College on Saturday afternoon at Art Smith Arena and came out on the wrong end of an 85-77 decision in a league game. The loss drops the Scots to 0-4 in the MIAA and 4-11 overall, while the visiting Knights are now 2-2 in the league and 7-8 for the season.
"We played very hard today and I am proud of our guys for the effort they gave," said Alma Head Coach Sam Hargraves. "If we play like this every game, we will win our share of games moving forward. The game was tied five times and Alma took their last lead of the game at 33-32, when So. G Kyle Aho (Gwinn, Mich./Gwinn) put in a lay-up with 2:00 to go in the half. The Knights were then able to then take a 39-35 lead into halftime.
Calvin came out strong in the second half and eventually had a 14 point lead eight points into the final frame at 59-45 with 12:12 to go. The Scots cut the deficit to six points on a lay-up by Sr. F Tommy Erickson (Escanaba, Mich./Escanaba) with 9:45 to go, but the Knights were able to answer every run to come away with the victory.
