The Alma College competitive cheer team, in its first season as a varsity sport, is currently in Louisville, Ky. participating in their first competition as a team. After two days of camps, Tuesday will be a day that the team will vie for a spot in the Nationals in Florida next Spring.
"We are thrilled to be in Kentucky and competing for Alma College," said first-year Head Coach Michelle Sabourin. "Even though we are a team that is out here for the first time, we have high expectations. There is no reason why we cannot end up in Florida if we do what I believe we are capable of doing."
The Scots enter Louisville with 19 athletes – 18 women and one man – and have been working as a team since last weekend. All Alma athletics fans will have the opportunity to see the team on the football sidelines, basketball court and other venues during the upcoming school year.
"This team wants to help the entire campus enjoy the athletic events and give support to our teams," said Sabourin. "We will be active not only on campus, but in the community as well, as we try to bring more attention to what we have going on at Alma College."
