Scott Kingston has been named the new head baseball coach at Alma College. A former head coach at the Division III level, Kingston joins the Scots from Division II Palm Beach (FL) Atlantic University, where he assisted in all aspects of the program, with an emphasis on hitting, team offense and recruiting.
Prior to Palm Beach Atlantic, Kingston was the head coach at Mitchell College, a Division III school in New London, Conn. in 2011.
"We are very happy to announce that Scott Kingston will be the next baseball coach at Alma College," says Athletic Director John Leister. "He has a successful record of recruiting players that fit the character of our institution and his varied experience brought his name to the top of our list. Throughout the interview process, it became clear that Scott was the right choice to take our baseball program to the next level."
While head coach at Mitchell, he led the team to the school's first regular season and tournament championship and its first trip to an NCAA regional. The team finished number one in the nation in hitting and slugging percentage, and fourth in home runs. During his tenure at Mitchell, he brought in 10 new student athletes in his first five months, including one that has gone on to play professional baseball.
"I am very excited to have been chosen as the new leader of the Alma College baseball program," says Kingston. "There is a very good foundation in place, most importantly a beautiful campus offering an excellent education and college experience. It is obvious there is the commitment from the administration to its athletic department and facilities. I believe the pieces are in place to get Alma baseball back to the top of the conference and also back on the map regionally and nationally. My wife and I were very impressed throughout our visit to the campus and community. It was the genuine and welcoming people we met that gave us the assurance that this was the right decision"
